Goodell memo details anti-domestic violence efforts

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Friday sent a letter to team owners and presidents outlining recent actions taken by the league to address incidents of domestic violence and sexual assault in the NFL.

Calling the memo the first in a "series of periodic updates," Goodell announced that the league met Friday with NFL Players Association chief DeMaurice Smith and several union representatives to discuss "issues of personal conduct, including training, education, family services, and the disciplinary process."

The memo to league executives comes on the heels of the NFL announcing that former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III is conducting an independent investigation into the league's handling of the Ray Rice incident. Goodell announced sweeping changes to the personal conduct policy concerning domestic violence cases in August. He said last week that more changes are on the way to the personal conduct policy. He will ask the NFLPA and others to collaborate on the process.
