Five beneficiaries of the extra-point rule change

NFL owners approved the Competition Committee's proposal to shift extra points from the 2-yard line to the 15-yard line for the 2015 season.

We're not convinced the rule change will have a dramatic impact on strategy. If NFL teams are indeed incentivized to attempt more than a handful of two-point conversions, however, the following players could benefit:

1. Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers quarterback: Newton is a pick-your-poison threat at the goal-line. He has averaged eight rushing touchdowns per season since entering the league and now has the option of hitting a trio of receivers all standing over 6-foot-4.

2. Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Seahawks running back: Never mind the Super Bowl controversy, Lynch is the most powerful back in the game. In fact, he led the NFL with 17 touchdowns last season and has averaged 13 per in each of his full seasons with the Seahawks.

3. Arian Foster, Houston Texans running back: One of the NFL's most effective red-zone backs over the length of his career, Foster displays an uncanny knack for knowing exactly when to cut. He has scored at least a dozen touchdowns in every season in which he has played at least 10 games.

4. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks quarterback: Wilson doesn't have Newton's power, but he's savvier, quicker and more elusive. He also has the first dominant red-zone receiver of his career in All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham.

5. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver: Bryant has been the NFL's most efficient red-zone receiver over the past three years, leading the league with 41 touchdown catches over that span. His instincts, physicality and vice-grip hands make him a perfect target for fades and jump balls.
