Bill Belichick talks deflated footballs on Letterman

Bill Belichick has once again reached the NFL mountaintop. Before the Patriots coach gets around to updating the name of his fishing boat, he's making the media rounds.

On Wednesday, he arrived in midtown Manhattan, where he was a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman. Letterman is a huge sports fan -- and a supporter of the Colts -- who, of course, were the team directly involved with the Patriots DeflateGate scandal following the AFC Championship Game.

Letterman takes some good-natured jabs about deflated footballs, with Belichick responding in his trademark gruff uncle tone.

The irony, of course, is that no one in the actual sports journalism world would be able to ask these types of questions and make these types of insinuations without permanent expulsion from Patriot Way. Letterman circumvents all that, making for some good television.

With Letterman set to retire from late night, perhaps he can make a second career as a hard-hitting NFL investigative journalist. The Goodell sit-down would be epic.
