Lukas Van Ness, Defensive End

Green Bay Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness has made honoring service members, veterans and their families a priority throughout his NFL career, inspired by his family's longstanding connection to military service. Several members of his family have served in the military, including his grandfather, who attained the rank of lieutenant colonel during a 27-year career in the U.S. Army. Their service has shaped Van Ness' appreciation for the sacrifices made by military personnel and their loved ones. Since entering the NFL, Van Ness has actively participated in initiatives supporting the military community. During his rookie season, he attended the Packers' "Huddle for Heroes" event, where he connected with local veterans, answered questions and personally thanked them for their service. He also wrote letters of encouragement to active-duty military personnel serving overseas, offering messages of gratitude and support during their deployments. Van Ness has continued his involvement through the Packers' annual Military Appreciation Week, participating in team activities each season to recognize service members, veterans and military families. As part of the team's 2026 Salute to Service programming, Van Ness is scheduled to join a family grieving the loss of a service member to assemble and paint a commemorative flag honoring their loved one. He will also present the family with a gift on behalf of the Packers. Through his continued involvement in military appreciation initiatives and his personal commitment to recognizing those who serve, Van Ness has helped strengthen the connection between the Packers and the military community while honoring the service and sacrifice of military families.
