For Washington Commanders long snapper Tyler Ott, supporting the military community is a deeply personal cause. Tyler has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to honoring, connecting, and empowering service members, veterans, and military families through engagement and service. Throughout his NFL career, Tyler has used his platform to empower those who serve. During his time with the Seattle Seahawks, he was an anchor in their Salute to Service initiatives, frequently engaging with Merging Vets & Players (MVP) – an organization that brings together veterans and former professional athletes to build community, strength, and mutual support. Since landing in Washington, Tyler continues to lift up military families and service members through volunteering for our Salute opportunities. Recently, Tyler's commitment to military appreciation took on an even deeper personal meaning. A close family member unexpectedly passed away while serving in the military. Tyler immediately turned to purpose. Building a special relationship with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Tyler honors the legacy of fallen heroes by ensuring their surviving loved ones receive continuous, compassionate care. In 2025, Tyler opted to support TAPS through My Cause My Cleats. Whether during his time in the Pacific Northwest or now in Washington, Tyler actively bridges the gap between the NFL and military communities. From active-duty base visits, such as spending meaningful time with troops at Joint Base Andrews, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, to one-on-one engagements with military families, when we hosted TAPS at our facility, Tyler fosters authentic human connections and genuine support. His warmth and empathy remind military members and their loved ones that their sacrifices are never forgotten. Through his personal loss, long-standing advocacy with military organizations, and humble leadership across multiple communities, Tyler Ott exemplifies the true spirit of the NFL Salute to Service Award.
