Reuter 4-round mock draft: Top talent drops with early QB run

Print

Producing a four-round mock draft two weeks before the NFL Scouting Combine is done for one of two reasons: 1) You're certifiably insane. 2) You want a snapshot of how players are viewed going into an event many refer to as the "Underwear Olympics."

I'll claim it was done for the latter reason, though most who know me will choose the former. Either way, I hope you enjoy viewing one potential scenario of how things could play out in the draft.

Note: The Vikings, who traded their first-round pick to the Eagles, have the same record and strength of schedule as the Colts, so there's a tie for the 14th pick. A coin flip at a later date will determine which team picks first.

» Other mock drafts: Daniel Jeremiah 2.0 | Bucky Brooks 1.0 | Charley Casserly 1.0 | Lance Zierlein 1.0

RANK

1

BROWNS

Myles Garrett - DE, Texas A&M: Cleveland can wait on getting that passer and take the player at the top of most teams' boards.

RANK

2

49ERS

Mitch Trubisky - QB, North Carolina: Trubisky's accuracy and mobility make him a talented prospect.

RANK

3

BEARS

Jonathan Allen - DT, Alabama: The Bears add another defensive piece to go along with last year's top pick, Leonard Floyd.

RANK

4

JAGUARS

Malik Hooker - S, Ohio State: Hooker's range and ball skills are top-10 worthy.

RANK

5

TITANS

Solomon Thomas - DE, Stanford: Karl Klug's a free agent, so the Titans will be looking for a difference-maker on the defensive line.

RANK

6

JETS

Marshon Lattimore - CB, Ohio State: "Revis Island" out, "Nevermore Lattimore" in.

RANK

7

CHARGERS

Ryan Ramczyk - OT, Wisconsin: Philip Rivers doesn't have many seasons left; the team must protect him while it still can. Ramczyk will also help pave the way for fellow Badger Melvin Gordon.

RANK

8

PANTHERS

Leonard Fournette - RB, LSU: Will Fournette's 2016 injury cause teams to pause before picking him in the top five? The Panthers would love that to happen.

RANK

9

BENGALS

Taco Charlton - DE, Michigan: Last year, people were surprised Chicago chose Leonard Floyd at No. 9; no one should be surprised at this pick.

RANK

10

BILLS

Mike Williams - WR, Clemson: How about Williams and Sammy Watkins, two Clemson guys, catching passes for the Bills?

RANK

11

SAINTS

Reuben Foster - ILB, Alabama: Athletic and strong, Foster's going to be a Patrick Willis-like force in the middle.

RANK

12

BROWNS

Deshaun Watson - QB, Clemson: Watson should be picked higher than this, but that chip on his shoulder should serve him well.

RANK

13

CARDINALS

DeShone Kizer - QB, Notre Dame: The Cardinals get the heir apparent to Carson Palmer.

RANK

14

COLTS

Christian McCaffrey - RB/WR, Stanford: McCaffrey has almost flown under the radar, but teams haven't forgotten about his talent.

RANK

14

EAGLES

Corey Davis - WR, Western Michigan: Carson Wentz needs more reliable targets, and Davis is more than just reliable.

RANK

16

RAVENS

Jamal Adams - S, LSU: Adams is another safety who could go higher, but quarterback needs could push a very talented player to Baltimore (again).

RANK

17

REDSKINS

Tre'Davious White - CB, LSU: White has earned high marks for his coverage ability.

RANK

18

TITANS

David Njoku - TE, Miam: Njoku is already being noticed by scouts, and a great Combine might put him in the top 10, just like Eric Ebron.

RANK

19

BUCCANEERS

Dalvin Cook - RB, Florida State: Cook is a potential all-pro, but his injury history and past off-field issues could make him available later in the first round.

RANK

20

BRONCOS

Forrest Lamp - OT, Western Kentucky The line must improve whether Paxton Lynch, Trevor Siemian, or Tony Romo are leading the offense next season.

RANK

21

LIONS

Teez Tabor - CB, Florida: The Lions have had issues in the secondary for years. Tabor should help lock down one side of the field.

RANK

22

DOLPHINS

Derek Barnett - DE, Tennessee: Cameron Wake and Mario Williams are over 30, and free agency will cut into the Dolphins' depth.

RANK

23

GIANTS

O.J. Howard - TE, Alabama: Eli Manning is going to love having the athleticism of Howard on his side.

RANK

24

RAIDERS

Caleb Brantley - DT, Florida: Jack Del Rio wants an interior pass rusher. Brantley's relentless inside? That's a good fit.

RANK

25

TEXANS

Garett Bolles - OT, Utah: Injuries and ineffectiveness have made tackle a need spot for the Texans.

RANK

26

SEAHAWKS

Cam Robinson - OT, Alabama: The Seahawks desperately need offensive line help, and whether Robinson plays inside or outside, he'll provide that assistance.

RANK

27

CHIEFS

Sidney Jones - CB, Washington: How about two former Washington corners making plays for the Chiefs?

RANK

28

COWBOYS

John Ross - WR, Washington: If the Cowboys don't see any "war daddies" available at this pick, and if Terrance Williams doesn't return in 2017, picking up Ross would help Dak Prescott immensely.

RANK

29

PACKERS

Cordrea Tankersley - CB, Clemson: Green Bay missed the length and athleticism of Sam Shields this year. Tankersley could become just as effective.

RANK

30

STEELERS

Haason Reddick - OLB, Temple: Reddick was one of the big winners at the Senior Bowl, and the Steelers need help inside and outside with Lawrence Timmons, James Harrison, and Jarvis Jones all free agents.

RANK

31

FALCONS

Charles Harris - DE, Missouri: The Falcons' pass rushers ran out of gas at the end of Super Bowl LI. Harris adds the needed spark.

RANK

32

PATRIOTS

Takkarist McKinley - DE, UCLA: Bill Belichick continues to use early-round picks on the defensive line. He'll covet McKinley's versatility as a stand-up or hand-down rusher.
