Romo's return in Week 10 would be a big stretch

Following the Dallas Cowboys' latest romp, Jerry Jones didn't rule out Tony Romo being active in Week 10.

"Unlike last week, I wouldn't speculate," Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I don't know. But he will do more. And he's really doing things that are strong relative to last year's strength. He's ahead of last year."

Don't expect the veteran to be in shoulder pads come Sunday.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that it would be a "big stretch" for Romo to be ready to dress this week.

Romo will focus on conditioning and change-of-direction during rehab sessions Monday and Tuesday and might not even practice fully this week, per Rapoport.

With Dak Prescott's outstanding play -- 21 of 27, 247 passing yards, three TDs, zero interceptions, 141.8 passer rating in the win over the Browns -- the Cowboys have the luxury of putting off any decision on Romo.

That didn't stop Jones from being asked multiple times if Romo would return to the starting lineup when healthy. The owner was predictably evasive.

"Well you didn't ask a bad question," Jones said. "I just didn't answer your question. We've got a great luxury, a wonderful problem to have. We've got some real talent at our quarterback position. I think Tony Romo is one of the best quarterbacks that have played this game. My real regret would be to have had him here and not won a Super Bowl with him. He's that talented. And now look at Dak and how he's playing, his future, so I just don't have a problem with this situation."

With the way Prescott moves the Cowboys offense, Dallas might have a mutiny if they replaced the rookie. Until the status quo changes expect Romo's rehab to continue at a deliberate pace. If something were to happen to Dak, then the veteran will likely be ready to play.
