ITC Live Whispers: Michael Bennett reports to camp

Training camp is here in full force. We've got you covered today with live coverage on NFL Network all day. On NFL.com, we'll be featuring highlights from the television coverage and notes from our reporters in the field. Here are today's whispers.

» Congratulations, we have reached the final weekend without a football game for the rest of the year. Preseason contests kick off next Sunday in Canton, Ohio, with the Packers and Colts facing off in the Hall of Fame Game at 8 p.m. ET.

» The Eagles have added a nine-time Pro Bowler, but he won't be on the official roster for the upcoming season.

Former Philadelphia safety Brian Dawkins was hired by the team's scouting department, and will also work with football operations. Per the team, the legendary safety is the first recipient of the Nunn-Wooten Scouting Fellowship, a program that brings in a former NFL player to the scouting world.

» Tampa Bay lightning, not the kind that wears skates, briefly held up training camp for the Buccaneers on Saturday.

» Jonathan Cooper, one of the two pieces the Patriots received in the Chandler Jones trade, had an early exit from practice due to an apparent ailment.

Per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, Cooper is currently battling a plantar fascia issue. The offensive lineman also previously broke his leg in the 2013 preseason.

»Speaking of the Patriots, take a gander of how many fans they reeled in for Saturday's practice. Based on the photo, that number doesn't seem to be inflated.

» Despite his unhappiness with his current contract, Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett reported to Seattle's training camp facility, per Rapoport.

"He's excited. I know there's a lot of questions that he probably wouldn't be here. But the kid loves football," NFL Media's Willie McGinest said Saturday on Inside Training Camp Live regarding Bennett. "To the staff and everybody I was talking to, there was no question that he wasn't gonna be here. He's here, he's excited, he's ready to get going. He looks like he's in great shape."

Bennett signed a four-year, $28.5 million contract in the 2014 offseason, and recently told The Huffington Post, "I just want to be fairly compensated with the top guys in the league. I'm definitely a top-five defensive end."

With fellow pass-rushers Von Miller, Muhammad Wilkerson, Olivier Vernon and Fletcher Cox all getting new contracts for at least $17 million annually this offseason, Bennett's dispute will be a situation to monitor. But the Seahawks have to be breathing a sigh of relief that the veteran showed up to camp.

» In news that is more of a scream than a whisper, DeAndre Hopkins dropped a Nuk(e) on the Texans. Per Rapoport, the star wideout did not report to Houston's training camp and will holdout in hopes of securing a new deal. In his attempt to make more money, Hopkins could also lose money, as the Texans can fine him $40,000 for each day he is absent at training camp.

» Does anyone else find it strange to see Ed Reed wearing Bills clothing, let alone him now being a member of Buffalo's coaching staff?

» Is this a video or a GIF? Nonetheless, still an impressive ball skills  display from Eli Manning.

» An Eric got a nice contract extension on Saturday by the Chiefs, but it might not be the one you think. Former No. 1 overall pick Eric Fisher, and not Eric Berry, wound up getting a four-year, $48 million extension from Kansas City, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. The team confirmed the new deal shortly after.

» The Seahawks seem to like Russell Wilson's shoe game.
