Five surprises from current Pro Bowl voting

Balloting for the 2016 Pro Bowl is underway. With one month of voting in the books, it's time to look at the frontrunners.

Here are five surprises from the current Pro Bowl voting:

Okay. It's not too surprising that two of the league's top quarterbacks and former Super Bowl MVPs hold the top spots. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady claims the No. 1 spot with 141,750 total votes. This season he's racked up 2,709 yards and 22 touchdowns with just two interceptions. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers holds onto second with 120,242 votes. In 2015, Rodgers has accumulated 1,937 yards, 19 touchdowns and three interceptions.

What is shocking, though, is the player receiving the third-most votes -- Andy Dalton. The Bengals signal-caller currently ranks third overall with 114,368 votes. Dalton isn't known to be a fan-favorite, but he's certainly made a statement this season as the Cincinnati Bengals are one of three remaining undefeated teams. He's totaled 2,226 yards, 18 touchdowns and four interceptions in eight games.

Devonta Freeman places fourth overall with 103,334 votes and is the top running back collecting votes. He's also just one of three backs (Todd Gurley, Adrian Peterson) to crack the top 25. In seven starts (nine games), Freeman has 721 yards and nine touchdowns.

St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley is the top rookie vote-getter. He's 12th overall with 75,592 votes. Gurley has emerged as a dominant force in the Rams' backfield. In five starts (six games), Gurley has accounted for 664 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The only other rookie to crack the top 25 in balloting is Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper (60,840).

The undefeated Carolina Panthers are well-represented in the list with four of the top 25 players receiving votes: quarterback Cam Newton (94,810), tight end Greg Olsen (67,734, cornerback Josh Norman (64,915) and fullback Mike Tolbert (60,665).
