Dez Bryant participating in on-field conditioning work

Dez Bryant was back on the field for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday.

The star receiver reported to practice for conditioning workouts while teammates went through a light, non-padded practice during their bye week, per the team's official website.

Bryant, who has been out since suffering a broken bone in his foot during a Week 1 win over the New York Giants, wore cleats, shorts, shoulder pads and his helmet to work with the Cowboys' medical staff on the side, per the report.

On Wednesday, coach Jason Garrett spoke optimistically about Bryant's status, calling the wideout day to day.

"He has made a lot of progress," Garrett said. "He is moving around. I think he feels good."

Seeing Bryant back on the field in any fashion is a positive step towards getting the Pro Bowler back following the team's bye week -- a date the Cowboys' brass has circled for a possible return since Bryant underwent surgery.

Bryant said Thursday of his status: "We're getting there." The wideout does not plan on taking time off during the bye, per NFL Media's Desmond Purnell. Purnell added a giddy Bryant bounced around the locker room without any limitations.

With Tony Romo's return still weeks away and Matt Cassel set to make his first start under center, getting Bryant back following the bye would be a huge boon for an floundering offense. The Cowboys are trying to overcome a three-game losing skid and remain afloat in the NFC East.

We'll have a better idea about Bryant's condition next week as the Cowboys ramp up for their Week 7 tilt versus the Giants in New York.
