Cowboys' Tony Romo placed on IR boomerang

The Dallas Cowboys have stashed away Tony Romo for a better day.

The team confirmed Tuesday that Romo was placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list. The move ensures Romo will miss at least the next eight weeks. He is eligible to return to action for the Cowboys' Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Romo suffered a fractured collarbone in the second half of the Cowboys' 20-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. On Monday, Romo confirmed the injury will not require surgery. It is the same collarbone that Romo broke during the 2010 season, causing him to missing the final 10 games of the season.

Brandon Weeden will start on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. Weeden played well in relief duty against the Eagles, finishing 7 of 7 for 73 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys have not ruled out signing another veteran passer while Romo mends.
