Report: Wake Forest CB Kevin Johnson to visit with Cowboys

Wake Forest's Kevin Johnson, one of the top cornerbacks in this year's draft class, will visit the Dallas Cowboys this week.

The Baltimore Sun reported the news, and said the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and San Diego Chargers already have held private workouts with Johnson. In addition, the newspaper said Johnson has upcoming workouts with the Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots.

Johnson (6-foot-0 1/4, 188 pounds) has a chance to be the first cornerback selected in the draft. He followed up a good senior season with strong showings at the NFL Scouting Combine and at Wake's pro day.

The Cowboys definitely need a cornerback in this draft; as it stands now, it appears Brandon Carr and Orlando Scandrick would go into the season as the starting corners. A legitimate question is whether Johnson would be available when Dallas makes the 27th pick in the first round. The Cowboys also could target a running back or a defensive tackle in the first round.

Johnson ranks 42nd on NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah's list of the top 50 prospects, with Jeremiah saying Johnson "has ideal height, speed and toughness."

Five of the six NFL Media analysts who have done a mock draft have Johnson going in the first round; three of them have him off the board before the Cowboys make their first pick.
