Bryce Petty looking to bounce back vs. TCU after tough game

It probably speaks to how far Baylor has come as a football program that it was disappointed with a 21-point win at rival Texas on Saturday.

Such is the case when the normally high-flying offense posts some un-Baylor-like numbers on that side of the ball. The Bears were held to just 389 yards by the Longhorns and had a measly 111 yards through the air. They also converted just six third downs and completed only seven passes.

"It was tough for me to watch it. There were so many things," quarterback Bryce Petty told CFB 24/7 on Monday. "It was not a good game on my part. Everything I saw on the tape, I saw on the field. They had a really good plan defensively, but it wasn't anything crazy.

"Like all the greats, Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, they all have bad days. You can count on one thing, though, and that's that they'll be back the next week. I'll definitely be back next week, too."

Petty had his worst game as a starter in Waco and acknowledged it was likely his worst as a quarterback passing the ball in his career. While he cited miscommunication as part of the reason behind the team's miscues, the senior took the blame for the offensive issues lately and pledged that this was only a hiccup for Baylor.

"The past few weeks haven't been the best for us offensively," he said. "That's just telling me we can only go up from here. It will be much better next week."

Things won't get any easier on Saturday, however, as Baylor hosts TCU, which is fresh off a huge upset win of Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs have historically featured the toughest defense the team has faced in the past, and Gary Patterson's unit is filled with veteran players who know what the Bears like to do and have faced Petty before.

Despite that, the quarterback remains confident the team can get its issues corrected and take advantage of a tough team at home in what is shaping up to be a marquee Big 12 game pitting the league's best offense against its best defense.

"They pose a huge problem for any type of passing game. It's going to be a great challenge and one I'm looking forward to," said Petty. "One thing you can always count on with a Coach Patterson-coached team is them playing really sound. They're all technicians, and playmakers on top of that. We have to make sure we get on top of them early."

While facing TCU is serious business, and there's concern by some surrounding the team's performance against Texas, Petty does try to keep things light around the Baylor locker room while showing off his funny side to the rest of the world. He tweeted Monday morning that he would have no problem if he got a shoutout from country music star Carrie Underwood, a clear nod to Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight receiving some rather positive comments from Katy Perry on last week's ESPN College GameDay.

While there were plenty of folks who were a little jealous of a superstar like Perry praising one's looks, Petty was not one such quarterback.

"There's no jealousy. None," Petty said with a laugh. "I actually texted Trevor that morning when I heard it and we exchanged a few laughs over it. Everybody has their celebrity crush and mine just happens to be Carrie Underwood."

Duly noted if GameDay travels to Norman for the Bears' showdown with the Sooners and the network needs a guest picker.
