John Abraham is ready to rejoin his team, but first he must pass concussion protocol.
Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said in an interview with Alex Marvez and Bill Polian on Sirius XM NFL Radio that Abraham failed that concussion test on Tuesday.
Abraham -- who suffered a concussion during a Week 1 win over the San Diego Chargers -- took a leave of absence to contemplate retirement last week.
Arians' said at the time Abraham told him that "his heart isn't in the game anymore." However, Arians said after talking to the NFL's active sack leader again this week, he now believes Abraham is "more than ready" to play once he passes protocol.
"He's excited (to play)," Arians said. "When you get that first concussion, and he had a big one, it shakes you up sometimes. I think the rest and sitting back this weekend at home, he missed it a lot. He's more than ready to roll for down the stretch."
The 36-year-old will undergo the test again this week, according to his coach.Â
Abraham, as the Cardinals' best pass-rushing option, will boost a squad that has started 2-0 whenever he returns to the field. Arians hopes it's this week in a big matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.
