Auburn pulls Nick Marshall from SEC Media Days

Auburn University has pulled Nick Marshall from its trio of player representatives for SEC Media Days, replacing the quarterback who was cited for marijuana possession on Friday. He has been replaced with tight end C.J. Uzomah, according to a release from the school.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and three Tigers are scheduled to be the first team through interview rotations Monday at the annual event in Hoover, Ala.

It's not the first time a player -- or even a coach -- has ducked a tough line of questioning at SEC Media Days. And it's not the first time it will be the wrong decision.

Expect Malzahn to explain Marshall's absence by saying the senior quarterback lost "the privilege" of representing the Tigers at SECMD. Trouble is, teammates Uzomah, Reese Dismukes and Gabe Wright now get the "privilege" of answering for Marshall themselves. More than likely, all three will be giving a scripted answer on their star quarterback. But that doesn't mean their experience with the event won't be somewhat sullied by having to answer questions about a guy who was originally scheduled to be there to answer them himself.

Marshall helped lead the Tigers to the BCS National Championship Game last season, where AU lost to Florida State. Marshall, in his first season as a starter, rushed for more than 1,000 yards and passed for nearly 2,000 as AU won its first SEC title since 2010.
