Brian Hoyer to be traded? Cleveland Browns interested

With five picks on Day 3 of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns are looking for a quarterback.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Saturday the Browns are "sniffing around" for a backup signal-caller after deciding not to swap a second-round pick to the New England Patriots for Ryan Mallett.

One name that has come up, according to Rapoport, is Brian Hoyer of the Cardinals. Arizona is open to shopping the 27-year-old passer, and the Browns have interest (Cleveland apparently has fondness for anyone who has stood behind Tom Brady in the pecking order).

Hoyer has generated intrigue in league circles this offseason. The Cardinals went out of their way to slap a second-round, $2.023 million tender on the passer amid whispers the Pittsburgh Steelers were hoping to sign Hoyer if he hit the open market.

Hoyer's ability on the field, of course, remains a mystery. With just 96 pass attempts and only one start in four NFL seasons, he's far from a proven commodity. If the Browns grab a prospect Saturday, interest in Hoyer could quickly disappear.
