ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt called Kevin Kolb's injury minor and expects the quarterback to play in Friday night's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Kolb left Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the New Orleans Saints with bruised ribs. He was limited in practice Tuesday.
"He's still a little sore," Whisenhunt said, "but I don't anticipate there being any problems as we progress through the week. He may be limited this afternoon, but I certainly think as the week progresses he'll be fine and he'll play."
Kolb is locked in a tight battle with John Skelton for the Cardinals' starting quarterback job. Kolb started Sunday, but he was intercepted on his first throw in the 17-10 loss to the Saints. His lone completion came on his final throw, the play on which he was injured.
Skelton will start against the Chiefs, a decision that was made before Kolb was hurt.
The Cardinals worked out jointly with the Chiefs on Tuesday at Kansas City's practice facility at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph. The Cardinals chose to go to Missouri rather than travel all the way from Canton, Ohio, to Arizona, then back to Kansas City for a game just five days later.
The Cardinals also activated running back Beanie Wells, who's recovering from right knee surgery, from the physically unable to perform list before Tuesday's practice. Like Kolb, Wells participated in the walkthrough portion of practice but didn't participate in any drills.
