There continues to be optimism that running back Beanie Wells will be available for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday when they face the New York Giants.
Wells already has said he expects to play, and Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt sounded pretty convinced of that himself Saturday. Whisenhunt told SiriusXM Radio that Wells felt good while taking more reps during practice Friday and will work out before Sunday's home game to fully determine his status.
"Barring something happening that I don't know about right now, I expect him to play," Whisenhunt said.
What's more in question at this point is how Wells' injured hamstring will react during the game. Whisenhunt said Wells' workload is far from determined.
"Does that mean he'll be able to get 30 carries? We'll see. That's what you don't know," the coach said. "The thing you want to be certain about is that if he does open it up, that it's not going to pull. He has to feel comfortable with that."
Wells was off to the best start of his three-year NFL career before sitting out last Sunday's 13-10 loss at Seattle, rushing for 183 yards in two games and averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
