Predictions for top 10 college games of Week 8
In 1994, Florida State and Notre Dame met in a 1-vs.-2 "Game of the Century"-esque showdown. While Saturday's matchup isn't quite of that magnitude, it could figure prominently into the College Football Playoff picture. If the season ended today, both would be a part of the four-team field, according to the CFB 24/7 Power Rankings.
CFB 24/7 experts Gil Brandt, Bucky Brooks, Daniel Jeremiah, Bryan Fischer, Chase Goodbread and Mike Huguenin have provided their predictions for each of the weekend's top 10 games.
Season records entering Week 8:
Huguenin: 50-20
Goodbread: 50-20
Brooks: 49-21
Fischer: 49-21
Brandt: 48-22
Jeremiah: 48-22

The skinny: Welcome to the ACC Coastal, where this game likely plays a role in deciding who wins the division. Virginia (4-2) is dangerous because of an aggressive defense headed by a strong front seven; DE Eli Harold (above) and LB Henry Coley are the guys to watch up front. Harold has 5.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss, while Coley has six sacks and 9.5 TFL. Duke (5-1) is winning because of a strong rushing attack (three tailbacks with at least 200 yards). Blue Devils WR Jamison Crowder (above) has been underutilized this season, but remains dangerous. Last season, Duke trailed 22-0 before scoring 35 unanswered points to beat Virginia, 35-22.
Game picks:
Brandt: Virginia, 27-24
Brooks: Duke, 28-24
Jeremiah: Duke, 24-21
Fischer: Virginia, 27-17
Goodbread: Duke, 21-17
Huguenin: Virginia, 20-17

The skinny: The Volunteers' revamped offensive line has been a mess this year, which could easily make the difference against an Ole Miss defensive front that gives up just 113 yards per game on the ground. Defensively, Tennessee LB A.J. Johnson (above) is piling up huge tackle totals again this year (11-plus per game) and will need to play one of his best games of the season. The Ole Miss offense is fun to watch, but never more fun than when 295-pound sophomore Jeremy Liggins (above) enters as a quarterback in short-yardage situations. He's averaging just 2.3 yards per carry, but when Liggins gets the call, that's usually more than the Rebels need.
Game picks:
Brandt: Ole Miss, 27-13
Brooks: Ole Miss, 27-20
Jeremiah: Ole Miss, 34-27
Fischer: Ole Miss, 42-20
Goodbread: Ole Miss, 31-20
Huguenin: Ole Miss, 35-17

The skinny: The Georgia offense proved last week that it can get the job done without suspended star RB Todd Gurley. The proof this week will have to come on the defensive side of the ball, where the Bulldogs' front will be challenged by a power rushing attack unlike anything it has seen this year. If defensive linemen Ray Drew (above) and Tony Johnson can't anchor the line of scrimmage, it could be a big day for the Razorbacks' rushing duo of Alex Collins (above) and Jonathan Williams. Arkansas is riding a 15-game SEC losing streak.
Game picks:
Brandt: Georgia, 31-28
Brooks: Georgia, 20-17
Jeremiah: Arkansas, 23-21
Fischer: Arkansas, 26-24
Goodbread: Arkansas, 20-14
Huguenin: Georgia, 26-21

The skinny: Fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Baylor, TCU returns home to face a tough Oklahoma State team that is still trying to find its way offensively. Gary Patterson's defense will no doubt have its eye on Tyreek Hill (above), who's a threat to take it all the way on every touch. Trevone Boykin (above) leads a Horned Frogs offense that will look to keep up its high-flying ways against an OSU defense that has some holes.
Game picks:
Brandt: TCU, 41-24
Brooks: TCU, 34-31
Jeremiah: TCU, 35-31
Fischer: TCU, 45-28
Goodbread: TCU, 35-24
Huguenin: TCU, 38-20

Details: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
The skinny: Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill (above) has thrown for 766 yards in the Aggies' back-to-back losses the last two weeks. But he's also thrown five of his seven interceptions in that stretch. If he doesn't clean up the turnover issue this week, it could be three straight losses for TAMU. Defensively, Alabama is quietly getting a big season from Jack linebacker Xzavier Dickson (above), who leads the team with 7.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. Alabama's offense is in a funk, having scored just three touchdowns over its last two games. The absences of injured center Ryan Kelly and running back Kenyan Drake are no small reason.
Game picks:
Brandt: Alabama, 37-17
Brooks: Alabama, 38-24
Jeremiah: Alabama, 35-24
Fischer: Alabama, 35-31
Goodbread: Alabama, 27-21
Huguenin: Alabama, 35-24

Details: Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The skinny: In a rematch of last season's Pac-12 Championship Game, Stanford heads back to Tempe hoping for a similar result. However, Ty Montgomery (above) and the Cardinal offense have to get better, especially in the red zone. Quarterback Taylor Kelly (above) is supposed to be back under center for the Sun Devils, who still have a chance to win the South Division and make it back to the title game. If Kelly can't go, the Sun Devils will call on Mike Bercovici, who beat USC on a Hail Mary in his last start.
Game picks:
Brandt: Stanford, 30-23
Brooks: Stanford, 21-17
Jeremiah: Stanford, 24-13
Fischer: Stanford, 24-17
Goodbread: Stanford, 20-17
Huguenin: Arizona State, 23-21

Details: Saturday, 12 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1
The skinny: The last time Baylor traveled to West Virginia, the two teams combined for more than 1,500 yards of offense and 133 points in a wild shootout. Expect a similar type of game given the high-powered offenses involved in this one, including the Bryce Petty-led (above) Baylor attack. Don't overlook the Mountaineers either, as they have one of the best wideouts in the country in Kevin White (above) and a deep stable of running backs.
Game picks:
Brandt: Baylor, 47-36
Brooks: Baylor, 45-41
Jeremiah: Baylor, 55-45
Fischer: Baylor, 48-38
Goodbread: Baylor, 41-30
Huguenin: Baylor, 49-38

Details: Saturday, 8 p.m. ET, FOX Sports 1
The skinny: The two Pacific Northwest rivals face each other on the 20th anniversary of "The Pick" that helped turn around the fortunes of the Ducks' football program. Marcus Mariota (above) continues to look like a Heisman Trophy favorite and benefited immensely from the return of left tackle Jake Fisher last week against UCLA. Hau'oli Kikaha (above) and the Huskies' defense will have their work cut out for them in slowing the Oregon attack in a big Pac-12 North showdown.
Game picks:
Brandt: Oregon, 42-21
Brooks: Oregon, 37-34
Jeremiah: Oregon, 31-28
Fischer: Oregon, 43-31
Goodbread: Oregon, 48-28
Huguenin: Oregon, 41-28

Details: Saturday, 12 p.m. ET, ESPN
The skinny: Oklahoma is looking to keep pace with Baylor in the Big 12 race and faces a stiff test at home with Jake Waters (above) and Kansas State rolling into Norman. The Wildcats nearly pulled off an upset of a top-10 team already this season (Auburn) but will have their hands full battling Eric Striker (above) and a tough Oklahoma defense that can suffocate offenses.
Game picks:
Brandt: Oklahoma, 34-21
Brooks: Oklahoma, 34-27
Jeremiah: Oklahoma, 27-24
Fischer: Oklahoma, 28-24
Goodbread: Oklahoma, 28-17
Huguenin: Oklahoma, 30-27

The skinny: Two of the nation's six unbeaten teams meet in a showdown certain to have playoff implications, but the pregame talk will center on FSU QB Jameis Winston (above) and his various off-field issues. Winston is averaging 321.0 passing yards per game, and he and star WR Rashad Greene (44 receptions) are going to cause all sorts of issues for the Irish secondary. Notre Dame QB Everett Golson (above) is playing at a high level and has accounted for 20 TDs. He needs help in this one from TBs Tarean Folston and Greg Bryant, both Florida natives. FSU has far more talent, but can the Seminoles avoid the distractions?
Game picks:
Brandt: Florida State, 34-31
Brooks: Florida State, 30-20
Jeremiah: Florida State, 45-20
Fischer: Florida State, 34-24
Goodbread: Florida State, 35-21
Huguenin: Florida State, 30-17
