With Kaeding rehabbing, Chargers sign K Novak to one-year deal

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Chargers have signed kicker Nick Novak to a one-year contract.

The move comes as Nate Kaeding rehabs a groin injury sustained in practice prior to the Pro Bowl. Kaeding missed three field goals in San Diego's 17-14 playoff loss to the New York Jets.

General manager A.J. Smith didn't return a call seeking comment.

Novak was out of football last year. He kicked for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. Before that, he played for the Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals in 2005-06.
