Washington Redskins' Richard Crawford (knee) out for season

LANDOVER, Md. -- Washington Redskins punt returner Richard Crawford is out for the season with a left knee injury.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Crawford injured at least one ligament and possibly a second on a 3-yard punt return during the first quarter of Saturday's 30-7 preseason win over the Buffalo Bills.

Crawford was a seventh-round draft pick as a defensive back last year and won the punt-returner job in midseason. He returned eight punts for 156 yards in 2012, including a 64-yard return that set up the winning field goal in the Redskins' overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Rookie Chris Thompson took over the Redskins' punt-return duties after Crawford left Saturday's game.
