Veteran corner Xavien Howard is back in the NFL.
Howard is signing a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts, per agent David Canter.
The pact is worth up to $5 million, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.
After eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins, Howard was cut last summer and spent the year out of football.
A four-time Pro Bowler, in his prime, Howard was a sticky cover man who twice topped the NFL in interceptions (10 in 2020; tied for first with 7 in 2018). In his career, the 32-year-old has generated 29 INTs, 95 passes defended and 331 total tackles.
As with every 30-plus-year-old corner, the question is whether he still has the legs to stick with younger receivers. The Colts are willing to take a look, adding him to a revamped secondary that included bringing in Charvarius Ward and Camryn Bynum this offseason. Corner Kenny Moore and safety Nick Cross have been dealing with injuries in the Colts' DB group.
