Twitter followers first to tell Butler he's headed for Carolina

Whatever news cornerback Darius Butler expected to find on Twitter on Tuesday was trumped by the news he discovered about himself.

Butler told The Charlotte Observer on Thursday that he learned he would be joining the Carolina Panthers when he was informed by members of the social networking site. The third-year defensive back was picked up only hours after the New England Patriots waived him.

"People started tweeting me and started welcoming me (to Carolina)," Butler said.

Butler is expected to compete with Captain Munnerlyn for a starting position.
