Tampa Bay rookie Johnthan Banks cleared to play despite infection

Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks was cleared to play Sunday and deemed not a risk to spread staph infection, NFL.com reported.

The NFL and NFL Players Association made a joint announcement Saturday that the Tampa Bay-Philadelphia game would go on despite the latest MRSA news, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Associated Press also looked at how the Buccaneers and the NFL have dealt with the problem.

Doctors said Nicks and Tynes did not contract the infection from each other and appeared to have different strains.
