Surgeries will sideline Giants backup OL Boothe, starting TE Boss

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants backup offensive lineman Kevin Boothe will be sidelined four months because of a torn pectoral muscle.

Boothe was injured earlier this week while working out and will have surgery next week, the team said Friday.

Starting tight end Kevin Boss also will have surgery on his ankle next week. The arthroscopic procedure should sideline him for four to six weeks, meaning he should be ready for training camp in late July.

Most of the Giants who had surgery in the last year participated in the organized team activities that began this week, including running back Andre Brown and defensive tackle Jay Alford, who were injured before last season.

Brown had his rookie season spoiled by a ruptured Achilles' tendon in an Aug. 14 training-camp practice. Alford tore knee ligaments during a preseason game at Chicago.

Also participating in this week's OTAs are running back Brandon Jacobs (knee surgery), defensive end Justin Tuck (shoulder), fullback Madison Hedgecock (shoulder), center Shaun O'Hara (elbow), guard Rich Seubert (shoulder), wide receiver Mario Manningham (shoulder) and linebacker Gerris Wilkinson (wrist). Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (both feet and one ankle) also participated on a limited basis.

The biggest concern is starting safety Kenny Phillips, who underwent major knee surgery early last season and still isn't ready to participate in drills.

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (both feet and one ankle), wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (wrist/toe) and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard (shoulder) didn't participate this week, although Bradshaw and Nicks are expected to return within the next two weeks.
