Chris Johnson: Jets didn't come clean about role

Former Jets general manager John Idzik is out the door, but his dealings in New York continue to draw criticism. This time from a former player.

Two days after Gang Green declined Chris Johnson's contract option, the 29-year-old running back told *The Rich Eisen Show* that the former Jets regime failed to paint an accurate picture of what his role would be in 2014.

"Basically, it was a situation where I was going there to be the guy, or whatever," Johnson said Monday. "And it was still said both guys (Johnson and Chris Ivory) were gonna get playing time but, you know, I think it was after the second game or something like that, it just switched over and I was getting less and less playing time."

Johnson pointed to Idzik as a primarily catalyst behind his shrinking role.

"I think a lot of it was out of (coach Rex Ryan's) hands because when I sat down and talked to Rex before I signed with the Jets, my role and my situation was going to be totally different to what actually happened," Johnson said. "It was never the type of thing where I was just being outplayed or anything like that. It was never a situation where I had the opportunity to show my talents and be used the way that I was supposed to be used."

On the latest Around the NFL Podcast, we asked if Johnson's career might be over. He's bound to get picked up, but whether or not he can carve out a regular-season roster spot is questionable. His days as a heat-seeking top-10 back are over, and it's not just the Jets who feel that way.
