Tony Romo is taking his first substantial step toward playing Sunday.
The Dallas Cowboys quarterback was practicing for the first time in London on Thursday. Romo officially was listed as a limited participant in practice.
Romo had not participated in any sessions since injuring his back in the Cowboys' Week 8 loss to the Redskins.
The team has been optimistic all week that the veteran quarterback would be able to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after he made the nearly 9 1/2-hour flight to London. Thursday marked the first proof of that optimism.
"We'll see. I think we'll take it day by day, and see what happens when we move closer," Romo told reporters. "It's improving each day, and I think if we did some things today that are positive, and if it keeps going in that direction, there's a good chance."
The team will have the weekend to see how Romo recovers from his participation at the end of this week before determining his availability. Jerry Jones reiterated what he's contended since moments after the team's loss last week to the Arizona Cardinals, namely that he still expects his star quarterback to play as Dallas attempts to avoid a three-game skid.
Getting Romo back at practice is a great step toward those expectations becoming a reality.
