Seattle car dealer pays dearly for Seahawks' shutout

A Sunday romp by the Seahawks has a slew of Seattle car salesmen seeing red.

Jet Chevrolet in Federal Way, Wash. will pay dearly for a promotion that promised to split $420,000 between 12 winners if the Seahawks shut out the New York Giants on Sunday.

"This is crazy," dealership owner Jim Johnson told ESPN.com after Seattle blanked New York 23-0. "We never expected that we'd actually be giving away the money."

Johnson said he initially hoped to run the promotion a week ago when the opponent was the San Francisco 49ers -- not the hapless, offensively challenged Giants -- but he needed more time to ensure the contest complied with state regulations. Johnson also wisely took out a $7,000 policy from an insurance company, which will help the dealership handle the debacle from here.

The 12 winners -- set to earn $35,000 each -- will be plucked Monday from the pile of entries that came in last week. Don't hold your breath for Jet Chevrolet to repeat the expensive stunt in Week 16.
