Signs point to Charlie Whitehurst starting for Titans

Your weekly "Will Jake Locker play this Sunday?" update: Outlook not good.

Charlie Whitehurst took the majority of the first-team reps during the open portion of practice and signs point to him startingSunday against the Washington Redskins, according to The Tennessean's Jim Wyatt.

Locker, who missed last week's game with a thumb injury, was limited in practice this week. He is listed as questionable.

Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt was vague on Locker's status.

"I admire the way he is working, and he is getting better,'' Whisenhunt said of Locker. "He has progressed."

Progressing isn't ready, however. It would mark Locker's third missed game of the season after missing 14 the past two years.

Rookie Zach Mettenberger would be the No. 2 quarterback again this week behind Clipboard Jesus. In a pivotal year. things aren't looking good for Locker's future in Nashville.
