Shady on Watkins: Bills keeping the Ferrari in garage

The Bills are keeping Sammy Watkins in bubble wrap, but Buffalo back LeSean McCoy says the receiver's glute injury is no reason for concern.

Shady joked Tuesday that Watkins has the "Allen Iverson injury" and that Buffalo is simply "keeping the Ferrari in the garage," per ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Watkins was held out of Thursday's preseason tilt with the Cleveland Browns and has been kept out of team drills over the past two weeks. It's a theme across the board for Buffalo's pass-catchers as Robert Woods and Percy Harvin also missed the Cleveland tilt with hip injuries.

Harvin returned to practice on Tuesday, wearing his helmet and doing individual drills, but coach Rex Ryan said it's "looking like" the former Vikings, Seahawks and Jets receiver won't play until the team's preseason closer in Detroit.

Harvin is a constant injury risk, but we aren't worried about Watkins. He emerged earlier this month as "head-and-shoulders" above the rest at training camp, according to WKBW-TV's Joe Buscaglia. The home run "Making the Leap" candidate fried cornerbacks and "lit training camp on fire" before the glute setback -- and we expect him to do the same come September.

The skill-position talent in Buffalo is saucy, but we remain skeptical about the collection of passers throwing the ball. If Tyrod Taylor can duplicate some of his promising preseason work, maybe that won't be such a burning issue, but we need to see it consistently against first-string opponents.
