Seattle's CenturyLink Field to get new turf after 2011 season

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC have announced plans to replace the playing surface at CenturyLink Field following the completion of the 2011 NFL season.

The teams announced the long-expected plans on Tuesday. The facility will get new FieldTurf "Revolution" system turf with installation beginning in early February.

The previous turf was installed in 2008 and has been used for MLS, NFL and college football games. Next season, the stadium will host home games for the Sounders, Seahawks and, for one season, Washington football while Husky Stadium is being renovated across town.

The first major event expected to be played on the new surface will be the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League between the Sounders and Mexico's Santos Laguna in early March.
