Seattle neurosurgeon receives grant to study concussions in kids

Thursday's health and safety news from the world of football:

KPLU-FM in Seattle reported that Seattle Children's Hospital neurosurgeon Jeffrey Ojemann, who thinks a particular brain chemical could hold the key to concussion research, received a National Institutes of Health grant with money from the NFL.

Fox Sports' Jennifer Floyd Engle wrote that players like Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe have yet to connect the dots about concussions.

Hawkeye Sports reported that University of Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz credited Dr. Ned Amedola as a silent contributor who does most of his "coaching" behind the scenes.

KATU-TV in Portland, Ore., looked at expanded guidelines that broaden the youth concussion law in that state.

WALB-TV in Albany, Ga., featured the new youth concussion law in Georgia.

WATE-TV in Knoxville, Tenn., and WBIR-TV reported on Tennessee's new concussion law.
