Seattle neurosurgeon receives grant to study concussions in kids

Thursday's health and safety news from the world of football:

  • KPLU-FM in Seattle reported that Seattle Children's Hospital neurosurgeon Jeffrey Ojemann, who thinks a particular brain chemical could hold the key to concussion research, received a National Institutes of Health grant with money from the NFL.
  • Hawkeye Sports reported that University of Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz credited Dr. Ned Amedola as a silent contributor who does most of his "coaching" behind the scenes.
