Saints hire ex-Broncos assistant Johnson to coach defensive line

NEW ORLEANS -- The Saints have hired Bill Johnson as their new defensive line coach, replacing Ed Orgeron.

Saints spokesman Greg Bensel confirmed Johnson's hiring Saturday night, but didn't give details.

Orgeron left to join the University of Tennessee staff under new Volunteers head coach Lane Kiffin.

Johnson was the defensive line coach with the Denver Broncos, who ranked 26th in sacks this season.

The Saints, who went 8-8 and missed the playoffs despite having the top-ranked offense in the NFL, also are seeking an offensive coordinator to replace Gary Gibbs, who was fired Wednesday.
