Free-agent wide receiver Braylon Edwards settled a slander lawsuit against a Detroit restaurant and some of its employees, then donated the proceeds to charity, TMZ.com reported Sunday.

Edwards dropped the $14 million suit, which was filed in 2011, last month after reaching the settlement, TMZ.com said. Sources told the website that Edwards used the settlement money to establish scholarships for 100 kids.
Edwards has a foundation that serves under-privileged kids in education. It's not known if his charity was the beneficiary.
Edwards accused the restaurant and its workers of spreading false rumors of a bar fight involving him. Those rumors, he said, cost him a $15 million NFL deal.
Neither the terms of the settlement nor the team that offered the contract were reported.
Edwards played in nine games for the San Francisco 49ers last season, catching 15 passes for 181 yards. He is a seven-year veteran who also has played for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.
