Redskins hire Wachenheim as tight ends coach

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins hired Scott Wachenheim as tight ends coach Thursday, reuniting coach Jim Zorn with a colleague from the early 1990s.

Wachenheim has been a college coach for 21 seasons, including the last three as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Liberty. Liberty averaged 33.7 points and 446.7 yards last year in a 10-2 season that included a Big South championship.

Wachenheim and Zorn worked together previously at Utah State from 1992-93, when Zorn was the offensive coordinator and Wachenheim the offensive tackles and tight ends coach for the Aggies.

Wachenheim has also coached at Rice, Arkansas and Colorado. He replaces Rennie Simmons, who retired last month.
