Rams bolster defensive line by signing veteran tackle Hovan

ST. LOUIS -- The Rams announced Thursday that they had signed veteran defensive tackle Chris Hovan, who made 149 career starts in 156 games with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Hovan participated in Thursday's morning minicamp practice at Rams Park.

Hovan, 32, is entering his 11th NFL season. He spent the last five years with the Bucs, who released him in April after they selected defensive tackles with their first two draft picks.

Hovan led all Tampa Bay defensive linemen in tackles three times. He started all 16 games last season and recorded 33 tackles, including 26 solo, along with a half-sack and 18 quarterback pressures.

Hovan spent five seasons with the Vikings, who chose him in the first round of the draft out of Boston College.
