Raiders to set speedy Ford loose on the league

Hue Jackson plans to make the most of Jacoby Ford's talents this season.

Oakland's coach is determined to use his second-year wideout creatively in the Raiders' offensive scheme now that Ford is fully recovered from a broken left hand that hindered him during training camp.

"If he can score touchdowns, I'm going to give it to him," Jackson told the Bay Area News Group on Thursday. "He likes the ball in his hands, we like to put it in his hands. We need to turn this guy loose."

The Raiders have a history of drafting for speed. They used a fourth-round pick in 2010 on Ford after he ran the 40-yard dash time in 4.28 seconds at the 2010 NFL Scouting Combine, the fastest time recorded at the event.

Oakland opens its season on the road Monday night against the Denver Broncos.
