Raiders promote safety Parker to bolster secondary

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have promoted safety Ron Parker from the practice squad and waived wide receiver Nick Miller.

The team made the moves Saturday to add depth in the secondary for Sunday's home game against the New England Patriots.

The Raiders will be without injured cornerback Chris Johnson (hamstring) against the Patriots. Safeties Michael Huff (concussion) and Mike Mitchell (knee) are questionable. Parker was signed earlier this week as insurance.

Miller began the season as the Raiders' punt returner and also returned kicks for one game. But he struggled in those roles and was expendable with receiver/kick returner Jacoby Ford likely to play after missing two games with a hamstring injury.
