Quick take: Steelers win sloppy game

It was over when ...
Pittsburgh's Tyrone Carter ran back an interception 32 yards for the game's only touchdown with 1:11 remaining.

Game balls
Kickers were king in this game. John Kasey was the Panthers offense, which only converted on 3-of-15 third downs. Kasey hit one 31-yard field goal. The Steelers' Jeff Reed was perfect: 4-for-4 on kicks of 32, 34, 31 and 37 yards.

Key stat
The Panthers gained 289 total yards but turned the ball over six times. David Carr and Dalton Bell each threw an interception and the team had five fumbles, only one of which was recovered.

Noteworthy
Steelers rookie punter Daniel Sepulveda got plenty of practice -- his six punts in the first half averaged 47 yards.
