Quick Take: No leader in 49ers QB race

What we learned ...

Disappointing night for J.T. O'Sullivan. The six-year veteran -- in his first year with the 49ers -- was given the start over last year's quarterbacks Alex Smith and Shaun Hill. O'Sullivan committed two turnovers losing a fumble and throwing an interception, but Smith and Hill weren't overly impressive, either.

Debut for Darren McFadden. The fourth-overall selection rushed for 48 yards on 12 attempts, showing some flashes. But it was Louis Rankin who had the big play on the ground -- a 72-yard scamper, and Michael Bush scored on a 5-yard touchdown run.

JaMarcus Russell plays in the preseason. Russell missed all of preseason last year with a contract holdout. He made a limited appearance and completed 2-of-5 passes for 13 yards. Andrew Walter saw most of the action, completing 10-of-12 passes for 82 yards.
