Philip Rivers' desperation pass fell just out of the reach of Chris Chambers as time expired. The Broncos took the lead on Eddie Royal's touchdown and two-point conversion reception with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Receiver Brandon Marshall, in his first game back from a suspension, had a club-record 18 receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown. It also was the second-highest single-game total for receptions in NFL history.

Key stat
Fans nostalgic for the AFL were treated to 942 yards of total offense.

Noteworthy
The Broncos had a chance to tie the game with an extra point following Royal's touchdown, but coach Mike Shanahan said "sometimes you have to go with your gut," and he went for two and made it. ... Nate Kaeding, with three field goals, is now the NFL's most accurate kicker with at least 100 attempts (95 of 109). ... Darren Sproles returned a kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown and caught a 66-yard touchdown pass from Rivers.
