A police report regarding an incident involving London Fletcher's family at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Sunday differs from how the Washington Redskins linebacker described what happened while appearing on "NFL AM" on Monday.
According to the report released Monday by Cleveland police, five people were arrested for assault on a police officer, aggravated rioting and resisting arrest but have not been officially charged.
Fletcher said he had about 50 friends and family at the stadium for the Redskins' 38-21 win against the Browns. He said they were harassed because they were wearing Redskins colors, but he said the fracas apparently began when a security official was asking how the large group had acquired such good seats.
The report states an officer was attacked when he tried to eject Jermaine Robinson who identified himself as Fletcher's relative, from the stadium for taunting Browns fans. Asu Robinson and Yvette Houston then grabbed the officer before Asu Robinson began punching and kicking him. Asu Robinson knocked the officer to the ground, the report says, and told him "he was going to earn his money."
Security personnel came to the officer's aid, but two other men, Terrence Woods and Michael George, started to push the officer in an effort to keep him away from Asu Robinson, the report states. Asu Robinson was then placed under arrest. A short time later, Jermaine Robinson, Devonte Robinson, Woods and George were arrested for their part in what was described as a "riot" by the report.
The report says Houston was treated for a medical emergency at the game and was transported to the hospital. Flectcher said his aunt, Yvette Robinson, was hospitalized for "neck injuries" and released. Asu Robinson was treated at the stadium for exposure to mace.
London Fletcher said Monday that stadium security was to blame for the skirmish.
"The situation that led to people being arrested was stadium security," Fletcher said. "One of the stadium security guys assaulted one of my family members. So instead of diffusing the situation, he escalated the situation."
