Playoff clinching: Carolina Panthers lock up NFC South

Cam Newton's bunch will get to host a playoff game in consecutive seasons.

The Panthers (7-8-1) dominated the Falcons (6-10) in the Georgia Dome on Sunday, winning 34-3 in a decidedly one-sided affair.

It's the first time one team has been repeat NFC South winners since realignment in 2002.

Matt Ryan was harassed all day by Carolina's swarming defense, getting sacked six times and throwing two picks.

Newton didn't have to do much, completing 10 of 16 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown.

» After beating the Lions, the Packers win the NFC North and the No. 2 seed; they earn a first-round bye.

» As a consolation prize, the Lions will head down to Dallas to play the Cowboys.

» Due to Seattle's victory, the Cardinals will travel to Carolina as the No. 5 seed.

» The Broncos clinched a first-round bye with their win over the Raiders.

» With the No. 2 seed out of reach, the winner of the Bengals-Steelers tilt will secure the No. 3 seed and a battle against the Ravens. The loser will slip back to the No. 5 spot and will travel to Indy to take on the Colts next weekend.
