Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker, 49ers QB Brock Purdy highlight September Players of the Month
Who were the NFL's top stars in September? Each month the league unveils its honor roll. See who the Players of the Month are below.
AFC Offensive Player of the Month
The Chiefs' ballyhooed free-agent addition has paid immediate dividends. Walker blasted off with 173 rushing yards and three total touchdowns in the Chiefs’ season-opening win. As Kansas City has raced to a 3-0 start, Walker’s been the offense’s motor, posting four scrimmage touchdowns (two receiving; two rushing), and heads into October as the NFL’s leading rusher with 360 yards.
NFC Offensive Player of the Month
Through three games and three victories, Purdy has been nearly flawless. Purdy has sparkled to the tune of 60-of-83 passing (72.3%) for 789 yards and nine touchdowns with just one interception. He’s also rushed for 93 yards, eight first downs and a touchdown on 10 carries. The 49ers (3-0) are undefeated, and Purdy is atop the NFL in touchdown passes (tied for first) and passer rating (133.1) and has yet to take a sack.
AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Every Bills game so far has ended with a Buffalo victory and Rousseau recording two sacks. Rousseau has piled up 15 tackles, an NFL-leading eight tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and a league-leading six sacks, which are just two off his career high for a season.

NFC Defensive Player of the Month
The Giants are tied for first in the NFC East and Holland has been a huge reason why. His three interceptions are tied for the NFL lead, and he's had one in each game along with a pair of forced fumbles, 12 tackles and four pass breakups. Throw in a fumble recovery and Holland's four takeaways are an NFL best.
AFC Special Teams Player of the Month
It was a perfect September for McPherson. The Bengals' big boot has converted each of his eight extra points and all of his eight field goal tries. Among those eight FGs, McPherson has made an NFL-high five from 50-plus.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Myles Price scores on an 86-yard punt return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
NFC Special Teams Player of the Month
A day after hauling in NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, Price is right back for monthly honors. After all, he leads the NFL with 353 kick return yards and likewise leads the league with 130 punt return yards. On Sunday, he turned in an 86-yard punt return for a touchdown -- thus far the only PR TD in the NFL this year.
Offensive Rookie of the Month
What a story Benson is penning through three NFL games. The undrafted free agent has started each game for an undefeated Chiefs squad and has now become the first lineman to win Offensive Rookie of the Month since the Colts Quenton Nelson in October 2018. The accolade is richly deserved. Benson, who amazingly never played left tackle in college at Indiana, has allowed just seven QB pressures and one sack on 106 pass blocks (6.6% pressure rate; 0.9% sack rate).
Defensive Rookie of the Month
In a crowded pool of defensive rookie standouts, such as the Commanders' Sonny Styles and the Raiders' Hezekiah Masses, the NFL's leading tackler has garnered recognition. Hill also has a pair of pass breakups in his three starts and has quickly developed a reputation as being a sure tackler. His 5.6% missed tackle rate is seventh-lowest among qualified off-ball linebackers and his 12 run stops are fifth at his position, per Next Gen Stats.
