Pierce active, Wilson to miss second game for Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Free safety Gibril Wilson is inactive and will miss his second straight game for the New York Giants on Sunday against the Eagles in Philadelphia. Pro Bowl linebacker Antonio Pierce is active after being limited in practice this week by an ankle injury.

Rookie Michael Johnson will replace Wilson, who has been sidelined with a knee injury.

Pierce sprained an ankle against Minnesota two weeks ago. He was able to play last week against Chicago, but was considered a game-time decision for Sunday's game.

Safety James Butler (hamstring) and rookie receiver Steve Smith, who has missed the last 10 games with shoulder and hamstring problems, were also deactivated by the Giants. Quarterback Jared Lorenzen (3rd QB), running back Danny Ware, fullback Madison Hedgecock, offensive tackle Adam Koets and guard Kevin Boothe are also inactive.

Besides Pierce, receiver Plaxico Burress (ankle) and cornerback Aaron Ross (hamstring) are also bothered by injuries but are active. Burress has been listed as questionable all season but he has not missed a game.

Halfback Brandon Jacobs, who pulled a hamstring three weeks ago, is active and will start.
