Patriots guard Mankins reportedly has sprained MCL

New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in Sunday's win over the Miami Dolphins, according to the Boston Herald, and he will miss Sunday's season finale against the Buffalo Bills.

Mankins will not need surgery, according to the report.

The hope is that Mankins will be able to return for the playoffs, which, for the Patriots, won't begin for an extra week since they have already clinched a first-round bye.

Mankins injured his knee against the Dolphins while playing left tackle for regular starter Matt Light, who suffered an ankle injury during pre-game warm-ups. Mankins was hurt during the first quarter and didn't return to the game.

New England can clinch homefield advantage throughout the playoffs with a win over Buffalo.
