Seymour spent the first seven games of the season on the physically unable to perform list because of a knee injury.

The seven-year veteran practiced for the first time this season on Wednesday, but the team had up to three weeks before to either activate him or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Seymour was the Patriots first round pick, sixth overall, in the 2001 draft out of Georgia.

He earned five consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2002 to '06. Seymour has earned three first-team All-Pro selections from The Associated Press and one AP All-Pro second team selection.

He has 367 tackles, 29.5 sacks and two interceptions, three forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 87 career games.

In Seymour's absence, Jarvis Green saw more time playing on the defensive line.
