Panthers hire former player Brown to help coach O-line

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers have hired former NFL blocker Ray Brown as assistant offensive line coach.

Brown, 48, had the same job with the San Francisco 49ers last season and also has worked for the Buffalo Bills. Tuesday's move pairs him with Panthers offensive line coach John Matsko, who was hired last week.

Brown played 20 seasons in the NFL at both guard and tackle for the St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals, Washington Redskins, 49ers and Detroit Lions. He was on the Redskins' 1991 Super Bowl-winning team and made the Pro Bowl with the 49ers in 2001.
