Pagano: Colts roster is best it's been under my watch

Chuck Pagano enters the final year of his contract as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts armed with what he calls the best team he's helmed.

"Our roster is probably better right now than it's been at any point," Pagano said for the second time recently, per the Indy Star's Stephen Holder.

The Colts have made strides each year under Pagano with Andrew Luck under center. The most recent waxing at the hands of the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game has the team -- including owner Jim Irsay -- gnashing to take the final step toward a Lombardi trophy.

Additions of Frank Gore, Andre Johnson, rookie Phillip Dorsett on offense and Trent Cole and rookie Clayton Geathers on defense, among others, give Pagano reason to rave about his roster.

"You just told me we've got a room full of running backs that are (talented)," Pagano said. "I'm just listening to you guys. You are the guys writing it, saying we have all these wideouts, all these runners, a future first-ballot Hall-of-Fame quarterback, which we all know.

"You guys are the ones telling me we're pretty damn good. So, we've got to go play."

Not only play, they've got to win. Otherwise someone else might be steering the Colts next season.
