Oregon QB Thomas to skip senior season, apply for NFL draft

Oregon quarterback Darron Thomas has declared his intention to apply for entry into the NFL draft and forgo his senior season with the Ducks, according to the school's official website.

Thomas, who guided Oregon to the BCS national championship game against Auburn last year, led the Ducks to a 45-38 victory over Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl earlier this month.

"I came to this decision on behalf of myself and my family," Thomas said in a statement released by Oregon. "I have a dream of playing in the NFL and I'm going to pursue those dreams."

Thomas completed 211 of 339 passes this season for 2,761 yards and a school-record 33 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. In 31 games at Oregon, the 6-3, 215-pound Thomas threw for a school-record 66 TDs.

"As in all cases, we educate our players with the information we feel will be beneficial to them throughout the process, but ultimately, the decision is left up to the players," Oregon coach Chip Kelly said in the statement.

"I will always support Darron in his decision and want to thank him for everything he has done for this program. He obviously has played a major role in elevating Oregon football to new heights, and I wish him well in the future."
